Who can join The Mentoring Project?
Youth aged 10-18 in our service area who are seeking a one-to-one partnership with a caring adult friend are encouraged to apply. Adults aged 21 and over with energy and enthusiasm for working with youth are encouraged to apply.
What do mentors & mentees do together?
Mentors and mentees commit to spending five hours per month together during non-school hours for at least one year, and also keep in touch through telephone and online check-ins. Usually that looks like meeting up 2 times per month either afterschool or on weekends to “hang out” doing whatever you both enjoy doing – fishing, ping pong, hiking, cooking, geocaching, etc.
In addition, The Mentoring Project provides gift cards for food and fun activities in our area. The program has kayaks available and offers at least four whole group activities per year in which to participate. Walking, talking, or just doing errands out together are also great activities!
