Catherine Beaton
Board Chair

Cate Beaton brings over two decades of experience as a leader, educator, and mental health professional to her role as Board Chair of The Mentoring Project of the Upper Valley. She currently serves as the Dean of Students at Oxbow High School where she leads school-wide programming to support students' mental health, school climate, and social-emotional development.

A nationally certified school psychologist and licensed clinical mental health counselor, Cate has built a distinguished career at the intersection of education, behavioral health, and youth development. Her leadership roles include serving as an Executive Director of the Vermont Permanency Initiative- North, where she oversaw therapeutic programming and residential services for at-risk youth, and directing trauma-informed practices and positive behavior interventions in both clinical and educational settings.

Known for her strategic thinking, relational leadership, and calm under pressure, Cate is a passionate advocate for equity, student voice, and restorative approaches. Her commitment to building inclusive, resilient communities and empowering youth aligns closely with the mission of The Mentoring Project. Cate’s work has been recognized by colleagues and community leaders alike for its vision, compassion, and deep impact.

Cate holds an Ed.S. in School Psychology from Plymouth State University, an M.A. in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology from Naropa University, and a B.A. in Psychology from Bay Path College. She lives in Groton, Vermont, with her husband, son and their vizsla, Ronan. She is thrilled to support the Upper Valley through her board service.
