Leah Silverman Gawel
Board Vice Chair

Leah spends her days wrangling high school students as an English teacher at Blue Mountain Union School. A firm believer in the value of libraries, the Oxford Comma, experiential learning, and the power of humor, Leah has spent the past 26 years working in education as a teacher, writing tutor, editor, writer, curriculum designer, and administrator. She also served for ten years as the Michigan Community Coordinator for Project Night Night, a non-profit, a national nonprofit that provides comfort packages to children experiencing homelessness.  A lifelong champion of children and a firm believer in the power of community, Leah brings heart, humor, and advocacy into every space she joins. In her free time, you’ll find Leah hiking or spending time with her friends, family, and her moderately feral and completely spoiled dogs.
